This pizza was an inspiration after traveling to Chicago for a dear friends birthday celebration, I decided to try to recreate a homemade version of a deep dish pie. Although a buttery crust is typical used, I decided to make it with pizza dough and build layers of flavors with the deli meats and cheeses.

Yields6 Servings
1 12 ounce pizza dough, homemade or store prepared at room temperature
 1 cup marinara sauce
 1 lb deli sliced ham
¼ lb deli sliced genoa salami
 ¼ lb deli sliced pepperoni
1 lb sliced Provolone cheese (reserve 5-6 slices for the top layer)
1 lb sliced Mozzarella cheese (reserve 5-6 slices for the top layer)
Dried Italian herb blend Cooking spray
1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees and bake in the middle rack of the oven.

2

You will need a deep dish cake pan 9 x 2 inches round. L

3

Lightly flour a large work surface to roll out the dough into a 12 inch circle. Using your rolling pin as a guide, roll the dough onto it and transfer the dough over the pan. Using your fingers press the dough into the cake pan, make sure its tight fitting inside the pan and the edges come up to the top and leave 1⁄2 inch o

4

Next steps are about layering the ingredients in the pan. Start with 1⁄2 cup of marinara sauce and spread a thin layer onto the dough including the edges. Next, layer the Provolone cheeses overlapping the slices, then half of the ham slices again overlapping and building height, followed by the sliced Mozzarella slices overlapping each other, layer all of the genoa salami, then the Provolone cheese, all of the sliced pepperoni.

5

Layer the remaining ham slices and the remaining marinara sauce. Continue layering the reserved slices of Provolone and Mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of the dried Italian herbs.

6

Place the deep dish pizza into a large sheet pan in case it bubbles over.

7

Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown. Let rest on a rack for 30 minutes before slicing.
